We too are human beings....

Women are an integral part of the society. From influencing they are outwitting men in jobs. From outwitting now they are dominatingin many spheres. In the phase of social suppression, focused and sustained action is required to awaken women to the possibilities of self reliance,to build confidence and organise women to take charge of their own development.

Fear is one factor which affects lives of women in our country. Often they could not voice their sufferings due to fear and other social, cultural and religious constraints. "It happens only in India" the statement which reflects our society, humiliates the pride of the nation and the dignity of men and women. If men chose not to exploit women there will be a substantial reduction in attrocities against women. Masculinity is not abusing women. It is respecting and treating them as equal.

What Indira Gandhi did , what Malala showed us, I think we all can do it. Women empowerment should be not be something for discussion and debate only., It is something to be made real and practised in society. The possibilities that lie ahead of us are infinite. A world where every woman lives a life of self reliance and dignity is my dream.

In the Land of Dams

It was a pleasant morning. Although it was rainy season, the day which we choose for the trip was an awesome day. My mother took some snacks and water for having during the journey. Father drove the car, my uncle was sitting by his side, me, mother and my elder sister were in the back seat. The initial phase of the journey was cumbersome. But after Thodupuzha, as we turned to the Idukki Hydro Electric Project area, the trip became exciting. The road which went up to the hills was neatly maintained with reflectors and sign boards on the sides. My uncle who had gone to Idukki earlier gave instructions to my father about the routes. The ladies at the back seat were eagerly seeing the beautiful sceneries at the side of the road, it was full of greenery everywhere.

After some time we entered the forest area of Idukki. My uncle told that we might see many wild animals during this journey. As we went uphill it became colder. The rays of the sun penetrated through the leaves of giant trees. We were happy chatting with each other and enjoying the beauty of the nature. We had planned to see the Idukki Arch dam which was one of the biggest arch dams in Asia. We halted in between for tea. We were not hungry but a hot coffee was necessary to keep us in good spirits. There were sign boards all over the place to be careful while parking the car. It’s because of the monkey. If the windows were not closed they would enter and grab things. There where lot of monkeys and their children sitting on the trees and road sides. I offered one of them a piece of bread and it immediately snatched it from my hand. They were fearless of humans.

Then we set out again and had to negotiate 12 hairpins. The forest became dense. There were strange and cute voices of birds. Father drove slowly because of the fog at the curves.I was very excited to see the Idukki dam. We visited Kulamavu dam, a part of Idukki dam, first. Even though it was noon there was dense fog and I couldn’t see anything when I crossed the dam

Afterwards we reached Cheruthoni, a town near the Idukki dam. We ate biriyani from a hotel, while eating biriyani I saw an arch like thing at the top of the hill through the window. It was about 10km away and when I thought of its enormity, it sent a chill down my spine. I hurried through lunch and told my father to come fast, as I was excited. The closer we reached the more I got excited. My uncle explained some historical facts about the dam. He told that it was Indira Gandhi who took the initiatives to build this arch dam. My father told us to be careful while walking through the top of the dam. There were hundreds of visitors. I walked through the top of the dam looking into the water. I was eager to see the depth of it. We had to walk around a hill to reach the arch dam. The arch dam is constructed in between 2 mountains. I walked beside my sister. We were all very happy. When we entered the arch dam I could feel the huge mass of water under me. We looked down, water was very near to us. As it was rainy season the dam was filled with water to the brim.

We left by evening and during the return journey my mind was full of images of the dam, which gave me an experience as if I went for an adventure trip.

AAP ki Revolution

The Aam Aadmi Party has  certainly created a wave in Delhi. The Delhi based party now faces the challenge of delivering to the level of a national party from a local party. AAP indeed have swiped the floor with it's broom. The victory is also a reflection of the protest against the current political system. The AAP's journey from  mass movement to political office in just one year is without a parallel.

The AAP transited from being a civil society organisation committed to the realisation of the Lokpal to a political party seeking to implement the vision of Lokniti. The manifesto being implemented by the AAP is to get peoples feedback on issues of importance. The new government is a radical deviation from the past. Given the manners in which the AAP has hit other parties, it will need to deliver it's promises quickly. The people have elected the AAP and expect it to get down to governing. Things have gone away  for the congress and the BJP took a wise decision in standing down and letting AAP from the government

It also worthwhile, to explore the possibilities of AAP in other states. In a state like Kerala where there are only two main wings, entry of a reform party like AAP will definitely make a change. The time we have to wait is only uncertain.

AAP has redefined politics for the time being.  Their efficiency and durability is something that has to be experienced. Meanwhile we can hope for a new dawn and wish AAP good luck in its battle.

Where We Learn

T.M.J.M Govt. College Manimalakunnu is a developing Arts & Science College located in beautiful village of Thirumarady. Started in 1983, the college is only gaining experience and acts as a beacon of hope and inspiration for a large section of poor and under privileged people around the neighbouring villages.

Our institution motivates students to make them ambitious and achievement oriented. In spite of its rural setting, the institution has done well in creating an academic atmosphere to higher learning and research. Our Principal Dr.Vijaya Mohanan has been an inspiring figure in the functioning of the college. His knowledge in various areas have helped the students a lot. Now the institution offers six under graduate courses and two post graduate courses and has the unique distinction of one among the very few state-owned academic institutions in Central Kerala.

The college was recently renamed as T.M.JACOB MEMORIAL GOVT. COLLEGE MANIMALAKUNNU along with the inauguration of English and Malayalam Journalism courses by honourable Chief Minister Oomen Chandy. The introduction of these two courses has started a new phase in the college. Apart from these students also engage in various co- curricular activities like NSS, NCC, sports etc. The Chamayam club of the college has been a leading factor in promoting arts and culture in the college. The vision of the college is to impart higher education to all, especially the less privileged section of the society and to create in students a vision of education and of life.

Wake Up Youth..

The youth in India is passing through circumstances never experienced in the history of the nation. Our country boasts of millions of educated youth. The question is how far do they contribute to nation building. Very few people realise how important they are and what their roles are.

Education's primary motive is to make youth realise things and have a vision. As Mahatma Gandhi said " Live as if you were to die tomorrow and Learn as if you were to live forever ". Where education fails to make an impact, the human resource output is reduced. Primary step towards empowering youth is to provide knowledge. Education should be imparted in such a way to encourage them to go beyond classrooms and into the society.

In a free country like ours, there are lots of choices. In a wider context he choices we make in turn decides the fate of the country. Its easy to lead a life bothering nothing and enjoying. But such a life is meaningless. Responding to the call of the nation should be the vision of every youth in the nation.

We cannot go back and start a new beginning, but we certainly can start today and make a new ending. What we require is a positive attitude and progressive thinking. Of course there will be obstacles and cynical naysayers who pulls us back. But our success depends on whether we are determined followers of dreams, rather than bowing to these naysayers. Now its wake up time for all of us.

Happy New Year

It’s the start of another spectacular year and like every year we resolve to do something. How very often have be wanted to change things in our life. But just couldn’t find the force and self discipline to change. We found out some things that can influence the way we do things. Some call it planning, some resolution we call it practicality!!!!

1. Do what you say and say what you do. This is the easiest resolution in words but the hardest to adopt. We often couldn’t do what we wish, what we require is a clear cut strategy so that we can execute our plans with effect.

2. Develop an interest in everything. We can do something perfectly if onl

y we have an interest in it. It easy to develop an interest in things we like. We should also develop an interest in the areas unknown to us and difficult for us.

3. Spread the smile!!! Share your joys with others that is the best way to make yourself and someone happy.

4. Resolve to renew all your old resolves, and add a few that are new.

5. Resolve to keep them as long as you can, what more can a poor man do.
